The Fall tag 2014

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  Now that its November, there are even more of these tags going around, so here’s another! It’s a pretty short tag, and if you do it, make sure to let me know so I can read your answers!

Favourite thing about Autumn?
My favorite thing about autumn is that it starts to get cold. The air is crisp, and if we’re lucky we get the first snow fall of the year sometime in November!

Go to makeup product during Autumn?
My favourite thing makeup wise in autumn is just getting back to wearing a full face of makeup, including blush and bronzer and a full foundation. I also absolutely adore wearing my deep red lips again!

Favourite food/drink during Autumn?
I’m a huge fan of peppermint mochas, and other fun seasonal drinks, but for food I loveeee scalloped potatoes and my moms roasts!

Favourite shop throughout Autumn?
I tend to change where I shop every year or so, but right now I’m so in love with Old Navy! Their summer collection was so cute, and I’m in love with their fall line even more! The plaids and the waffle tops?? Yes please!

Favourite Autumn scent?
I cant smell! But I’m sure I would love all of the seasonal bath and body works candles!

One word that sums up Autumn for you?

Favourite item of clothing during Autumn?
Big chunky knit scarves! They’re beyond cozy and are so comfortable to nuzzle up in when I’m on the bus in the morning!

Inside or outside during Autumn?
Though I do spend most of my time inside, I love the outdoors. When it’s not raining in Vancouver, the air is perfect and I love going on walks and experiencing the city.

Please pleaseeee let me know if you do the tag so I can read your answers!

The Fall Tag

I’m sitting here after my first class of the day (and my first exam of the day, hsci is going to kill me this semester), catching up on some blogs abd sitting and staring out at this terrible weather.  So of course, when I came across the Fall Tag, I felt like it was the perfect thing to do on this rainy, cold, and tired tuesday morning.

1. Ok we’re talking coffee’s – what’s your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks/Costa/Cafe Nero etc?
I am a total coffee person, but this past year I’ve found a new love for mochas.  Mochas? Kill me now they’re so delicious.  Dark chocolate mochas, specifically.  Dark chocolate peppermint mochas?  Even better!  At my cafe, we make a really really good one.  If only it wasn’t a million calories, I could probably live off of them!  From Starbucks I’ve also been loving the PSL, of course.  But McDonalds also did a really good, and reasonably priced, pumpkin spiced latte too, and I kind of almost think it’s better than the Starbucks ones!   In addition to the PSL from Starbucks, I tried the salted caramel mocha for the first time the other week and OH. MY GOD. I don’t know when I let my sweet tooth take over my life, but I love it!

2.  Accessories – what do you opt for, scarf, boots, gloves?
Scarves? Check. Boots? Check.  Gloves? Check.
I did a post yesterday about wearing scarves, so duh, I love them!  And not just thin ones either. I have a few of the really huge chunky knit ones, and I live in them in the winter.  As for boots, I have two and a half pairs of riding boots (my last pair is about to bite the dust), and I’m looking at investing in a pair of hunters.  (For those of you who remember when I considered the red ones, I’ve decided on the blacks.  And if I really love them, and wear them all the time, I may consider getting a shorter pair of the reds next year!)  And gloves? yes. I need them.  I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: I go to school on a mountain and it’s friggen cold. I bought a pair of tech gloves from Old Navy last year and they’re amazing.  Being able to text, or change my spotify playlist without my fingers freezing off is wonderful!
3.  Music – what’s your favourite music to listen to during Autumn?
The only time my music taste really changes according to season is in spring.  In spring I always listen to a lot of Noah and the Whale and The Mountain Goats.  As for right now, I’m listening to a lot of Death Cab for Cutie (Total throwback! I have no clue where this came from!), a lot of top 40, like Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran, and of course our girl Taylor!
4.  Perfume – what’s your favourite scent for this time of year?
Since I don’t have a sense of smell, I tend to avoid perfumes, and just stick with cheap body sprays, and I usually just spritz them on once I’m done at the gym.  I get the travel sizes at Bath and body works and throw them in my bag!
5.  Candles – what scents will you be burning this season?
Okay, even though I don’t have a sense of smell, I still love the ambiance of candles!  I actually just finished off two yesterday, a sweet cinnamon pumpkin and a coffee scented one.  Yup.  Coffee candles.  Can things get any  better?? (Well maybe they could, if I could smell.)
6.  What do you love most about Autumn?
I love that I can start layering more!  I can wear jeans and sweaters, and lounge around the house in slippers and flannels!  Also lighting candles and turning my fire place on is such a nice way to end the day!  And of course, don’t forget warm drinks.  Coffee and mochas and hot chocolate? Love it. Bring it on!
7.  Favourite makeup look?
I pretty much wear the same look all year long, but I just do more or less.  In the fall/winter, I wear a heavier foundation (just like the rest of the world!), right now I’m loving the Estee Lauder Double wear. I also contour, bronze and apply blush, which I don’t do in the summer months.  And Recently I’ve been putting more effort into my eye looks! I’ve started wearing eyeshadow again, and doing more than just my usual winged liner!  And of course I pair it with my signature dusty rose lip colour, or a bold dark colour!
8.  What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?
That’s actually a really good question!  Before today I think I would say the weather, but the rain has totally turned me off of wanting it to get any colder up here.  For now,  I’m really looking forward to my Whistler trip with my friends. Every summer we go away to the interior for our summer vacation, and this year we decided to go up to whistler for a winter vacation!  I love spending time with my friends, it’s probably the highlight of any season, no matter what.
If you read this, I totally tag you to do this tag!  Comment below when you’ve done it so I can check it out!

Formula X

When I was taking classes downtown, I would go into sephora every few days and paint my nails.  It was nice having such a huge selection of polishes to chose from, without having to pay.  I couldn’t afford to buy nail polishes, and I figured that if anyone had a problem with it, they would tell me.  While I was doing that, I fell completely in love with the Sephora formula X.  This Nail polish is seriously the best formula I’ve ever used!  I cant remember exactly how many days it would last on my fingers, but I remember I would go almost 5 days without any substantial chipping!

The other day when I was with my mom doing some shopping,  we popped in to sephora, and she picked up one of the formula x polishes.  When I first saw the colour she chose, I was ambivalent but I put a few coats on last night and I’m in love!  I feel like it’s the perfect barbie pink!  Even though it’s fall, and the typical nail colour that I gravitate towards is the ox blood/maroon/dark red, but I don’t’ care! I’m in love with this polish!

Fall Lippies

I tend to go through phases of what I’m more interested in when it comes to makeup.  I started with eyeliner, then eyeshadow, lipstick, foundation, eyeliner, lipstick, etc.  But let me tell you, when september rolls around, I am always hopping on that Lippies bandwagon trend again.  It’s just such a great time to play around with colours.  And not just dark colours, but bright pinks and nudes too!  A light pink paired with a dark eye?  yes please!

Personally I tend to favour drugstore lip products, mostly because I very often lose lipsticks, but also because I chose variety over brand. Here are some of my favorites!

Common Cold Essentials

It was bound to happen.  Spending most of my time around people, it was just a matter of time before I got sick.  I don’t know if I picked the bug up in class one day, or on the bus or at the gym, but I do know that I got it somewhere.  And the worst thing is that it’s just a head cold, and I can’t even justify missing class, or being unproductive.

So I’ve been working away, trying desperately to make the most of my time between cough attacks, and to keep on top of readings and notes.  It was great having 2 midterms on one day when I was sick.

Here are some of the things that I could totally not live without during my cold. Screen Shot 2014-09-25 at 5.03.24 PM

I’ve been living in sweaters now that the weather has started to cool down. They’re perfect because they’re so comfy and easy, and it’s a justifiable way to put together an outfit and to feel comfy.  i still like to look presentable when I’m sick and at school, so I’ll throw on a sweater, some jeans and a pair of riding boots. Recently I’ve been loving my PINK Georgetown sweater that my friend got me, and my schools varisty sweater.

I’m not an easy sleeper, and along with the cough it takes me forever to finally knock out. But thanks to Nyquil, I can actually manage to get the right amount of sleep every night!  Along with nyquil I take dayquil and an unhealthy amount of fisherman’s friends.

Fall.  The season of (non fat, no whip) pumpkin spice lattes.  I’ve had more than I can count already.  I love indulging in a starbucks treat every couple of days, especially when I’m sick and I need a pick me up.  Americano Mistos (with a shot of your favorite syrup) is a great cheap way to get your fix!

Me and Riding boots have a weird relationship.  I love them, they love me, but i wear them so often, and I’m so tough on my shoes that they only last me about a year each.  And that’s not very long.  Because of that, I’ve resorted to buying cheaper pairs on an annual basis, with the expectations to replace them fairly often.  When you get a pair of Maddens and they only last you around a year, things change.  There’s no more justifying a pair of boots that cost upward of $70.

While in Macy’s picking up a jacket that I had my eyes on, I fell in love with these boots.  Everything about them, but the price tag.  $375???  Ouch.  I’m not in the budget for that.   There were a similar pair by Band0lino for about $180.  Still too high considering I’ll probably be done with them in about 12 months.

But then Target happened.  While running in to pick up a new setting powder and eyebrow pencil, I saw these.  Best part? $40.  Can that be any more perfect?  Sure they’re not quite as beautiful and stunning as the MK’s but for that price, who cares!   boots

(I’ll be the first to admit that the Target boots don’t look anywhere near as sharp, or beautiful, as the MK ones, but for a fraction of the price, I’m alright with that!)

Taking Preppy on a Budget to a whole new level.

Fossil Fall Campaign

I’m a huge Fossil person, and their fall collection had my knees week.  The colours, the styles, absolutely everything!  Though I’m putting my wallet away for a few months (despite having just did a big Old Navy order, I can’t resist old navy), I can still look, right?

Here are some of my favorites!

This watch in both gold and rose gold is stunning!

If I was in the market for a light briefcase, I would definitely have my eyes on the Sydney Work Bag.  Black, of course.

And the new Preston line.  I love the styles, and combined with this season’s colours? Timeless.   Some personal favorites are then Crossbody in Espresso, the tote in raisn, and the small flap in lipstick.

See anything you like?
